Like many African countries, Guinea faces serious waste-management challenges. Missing disposal infrastructure and large quantities of plastic create health risks and pollute urban areas and harbours.
At the small fishing harbour Port Kaporo in Conakry, local organisations arranged a clean-up. africa aid project e.V. financed protective gloves for volunteers and the transport of the collected waste.
The action was accompanied by the Guinean television station RTG. It demonstrated that motivated local cooperation can achieve a great deal with limited resources.
